Dutch Miffy Museum and more
The oldest, sweetest, and most cheerful Dutch museums are all in the center of Utrecht. With this museum tour, you have a guaranteed fun and educational day.
The oldest municipal museum of the Netherlands
At the ‘Central Museum Utrecht’ there is art, fashion, and culture that is collected from the past and the present. It is therefore the most prominent art museum of Utrecht. The very first exhibition took place in the year 1830. In the museum, you can admire the world’s largest collection of Rietveld objects, including the famous Red and Blue Chair. In addition, you will find paintings by the old masters. Other famous highlights are the ‘Utrecht schip’ from the 11th century and the Doll House from the 17th century. The museum is located in a medieval monastery with a beautiful Dutch courtyard garden.
Dick Bruna and Miffy
In the Miffy museum (named by the Dutch as ‘Nijntje’), you view the world from the eyes of Dick Bruna. In his studio, he worked for 30 years creating illustrations and graphic designs. It is where the world famous Miffy was born in 1955. In total Miffy experienced 120 adventures. The museum is almost 1000 m2 and has 10 different areas with contrasting themes in which children can discover the world together with Miffy.
The happiest museum of the Netherlands
Behind the Dom tower there is a miraculous world of automatically playing musical instruments. The Musical Clock has a rich collection of instruments; from the smallest game boxes and clocks to the biggest barrel-organs and the tower clock with carillon. Both the young and old are enchanted by the sounds from a time when music was not for everyone. In addition to the permanent exhibition there are changing exhibitions and you can dive deeply into the operation and techniques of the automatically playing instruments.
